At Burr-Off, being able to provide an ISO 9001:2008 compliant quality management program to govern our daily operations allowed us to develop a mistake-proof process for deburring the check plate shown here. Designed for the fluid power industry, it measured 3.375″ in length, 3.375″ in width, 0.75″ in thickness, and was composed of ductile iron. To provide the best results with our thermal deburring process, all parts were pre-cleaned to remove large chips and all traces of machine oil. We then fixtured the part and oriented it to optimize the process parameters, which incinerated all burrs and produced a broad, smooth, and flat surface.
During the deburring process, a deposit of metal oxide formed on the surface of the workpiece, which we cleared using our proprietary post-process acid bath. Intense visual inspection with a high magnification microscope ensured there was no damage to critical surfaces and the ±0.005″ dimensional tolerances were not compromised. We then finish treated the workpiece as a precaution against the formation of rust during shipping.
Current production for this plate is anywhere from 85 to 500 unit lots that we process in 2-4 days. If you would like more information about this project, see the table below or contact us today.
